The 2nd JAPAN-AFRICAPublic-Private Economic Forum

An Opportunity for Promotion of Business Activities between JAPAN and AFRICA

The Japan-Africa Public-Private Economic Forum (JAfEF) is held every three years and brings together high-level officials from the public and private sectors of both Japan and Africa, with the aim of promoting cooperation between them in areas such as trade and investment, infrastructure, and energy, as well as assisting Japanese companies in developing their business in Africa. The launch of this forum was originally announced by former Prime Minister Abe at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI) in Kenya in August 2016. The inaugural event was held in South Africa, in May 2018.

The second forum will focus on the four pillars announced at the first forum: 1) Promotion of infrastructure projects (use of private sector funds); 2) Expansion of business sectors 3) Expansion of key players in these areas; 4) Improvement of the business environment. In addition to showcasing the progress of initiatives by both sides and the changes that have taken place as a result of the pandemic, the forum will feature ideas that help realize these policies ahead of TICAD 8. In addition, the forum will discuss ways in which Japan and Africa can work together through public and private partnerships to achieve concrete results by identifying business sectors in Africa that have remained resilient, as well as key social issues that have come to light over the course of the pandemic.
